In the coming weeks, WhatsApp will reportedly re-introduce their updated terms of service (TOS) and privacy policy to their users. This move comes after WhatsApp had a disastrous rollout few weeks ago, where users felt like their choice was being taken away if they wanted to continue using the service.

In a blog post, the company announced that they will be providing more information through a banner that people can read at their own pace. Any common concerns will be answered and then later, WhatsApp will require users to accept the updates by May 15th, 2021.

WhatsApp re-iterated that they cannot see personal or group messages, as chats are protected by End-2-End encryption. They also noted that Facebook is involved in the WhatsApp business feature, allowing businesses to maintain and manage their inventory across apps.

WhatsApp initially sent out a banner in the first week of January, requiring users to accept the updated TOS and Privacy Policy if they wanted to continue using the app. There was consequently a lot of backlash, causing many users to leave WhatsApp and join competing apps like Telegram and Signal.

WhatsApp has since postponed enforcing the updated policy to May 15th and started a big campaign, with full-page newspaper ads and blog posts, clarifying their policies and stop the spread of misinformation about them.
