Last week WhatsApp announced changes in its Terms of Service and privacy policy and asked users to accept it by February 8 to keep using the service. After receiving a lot of backlash and since several users moving to Singal and Telegram, the company clarified by releasing an FAQ detailing what information is not collected and not shared with its parent company, Facebook.

Now it has announced that it is moving back the date on which people will be asked to review and accept the terms from February 8 to May 15, 2021. It said that it will take this time to do a lot more to clear up the misinformation around how privacy and security works on WhatsApp.

In a statement the company said:

With these updates, none of that is changing. Instead, the update includes new options people will have to message a business on WhatsApp, and provides further transparency about how we collect and use data. While not everyone shops with a business on WhatsApp today, we think that more people will choose to do so in the future and it’s important people are aware of these services. This update does not expand our ability to share data with Facebook.
