Recently, the micro-blogging site Twitter has started showing warning who tries to like or retweet a labeled tweet. Twitter began showing a warning before the 2020 US presidential election when users tried to retweet a flagged tweet.

Now the company has rolled out the warning functionality on the web and iOS globally this week. For Android, it will be rolled out very soon, claims Twitter.

While announcing the feature, Twitter posted, “Giving context on why a labeled Tweet is misleading under our election, COVID-19, and synthetic and manipulated media rules are vital. These prompts helped decrease Quote Tweets of misleading information by 29%, so we’re expanding them to show when you tap to like a labeled Tweet.”

From now, when you try to like or retweet a message, you will get a pop-up from Twitter claiming “This is disputed”. However, it will not stop you from posting but just a sign of warning. Users can proceed despite the warning too.

Furthermore, when users try to share a tweet, Twitter opens a window to compose a quote tweet instead of immediately sharing the tweet with followers. However, users don’t have to write anything and can just hit the ‘Retweet’ button in the compose window.
