The iPhone 12 Drop Test Is Painful To Watch

With the new iPhone 12s, Apple introduced what they are calling Ceramic Shield, which is a new type of glass cover that they claim is 4x tougher than its predecessors. We’d hate to find out for ourselves if this claim is true, but the good folks at EverythingApplePro decided to put it to the test via a series of drop tests.

These tests can hardly be called scientific since there are so many different scenarios that we could drop our phone, but it should still give you some idea of how tough the new iPhones are. If you don’t have the time to watch the videos, basically it seems that when it comes to the actual body of the iPhone itself, the iPhone 12 fared slightly worse compared to the iPhone 12 Pro

This is largely due to the fact that the iPhone 12 Pro uses stainless steel for the band around the phone, whereas the iPhone 12 uses aluminum, which is slightly softer and as such, during the drop tests, it appeared to dent easily compared to the iPhone 12 Pro. As for the claims of a stronger glass display, it seems that Apple’s marketing could be right.

According to EverythingApplePro, they claim that the iPhone 11 series actually failed during the face down portion of the testing, whereas the iPhone 12s did not, however, they did notice some dead pixels so while the glass did not break, the internals did seem affected. That being said, we doubt that many of you will be dropping your phones from such great heights, but it might still be a good idea to get a case to protect your investment all the same.
