In recent years, Apple started to introduce more color options for its iPhones. This is a good thing as it helped to create a more colorful lineup, but unfortunately there seems to be some downsides to choosing some of these brighter colors. This is because according to a report from Svetapple.sk, the colors are fading.

The report seems to mostly point towards the PRODUCT(RED) model of the iPhone 12, there the sides of the phone seem to have faded from a nice bright red to that of an orange tint. The report claims that the phone has been protected in a case which means that it isn’t really an issue with friction causing the color to fade.

This isn’t isolated to the iPhone 12 as there have been reports of the iPhone 11 and iPhone SE 2 experiencing similar problems. Some have speculated that exposure to UV could be the issue, but if that was the case, it would be more widespread. It is possible that it could also be due to heat, where the heat is somehow causing the colors to fade.

In any case, we’re not sure what Apple plans to do about it for future models, and if current model owners will be able to claim any kind of compensation. It is also unclear if all colors are affected or only certain finishes.
