MEcklenburg-West Pomerania’s Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) has all of them accusations against them in connection with the construction of the Nord Stream 2 Baltic Sea pipeline and the MV climate foundation established to complete it. There have been many allegations, insinuations and even conspiracy theories in recent weeks. “I want to say very clearly: There is nothing to it,” said Schwesig on Tuesday in a special session of the state parliament in Schwerin.
One of the facts is that Germany has supported the construction of the Baltic Sea pipeline for many years. “It is wrong if the finger is repeatedly pointed at our country on this subject,” emphasized the Schwerin head of government. It was the federal government under Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) who always supported the construction. Merkel personally negotiated with US President Joe Biden about its completion.
The state government in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania has always acted within the framework of the foreign and economic policy of the Federal Republic of Germany. “And there were – at that time – also from our point of view, good reasons to rely on the construction of the Baltic Sea pipeline,” said Schwesig. It was about the safe supply of cheap gas for business and citizens. With your advocacy you have Nord Stream 2 not representing Russian interests, but those of their country.
