On paper, Apple’s iPhones usually come with “less” RAM compared to the competition. It might seem like a problem because in this day and age where smartphones are packing as much as 12-16GB of RAM, it’s amazing how Apple has gotten away with just 6GB of RAM, but that could change soon.

According to a post on Naver, it has been suggested that Apple could bump the RAM on the iPhone 14 Pro series up to 8GB, matching the base model of the Samsung Galaxy S22 series.

Over the years, Apple has never really been one to chase the amount of RAM that they offer in their iPhones. This is because one of the benefits of controlling the hardware and software on the iPhone is that it lets Apple decide how much they need, and how to calibrate and optimize their hardware to take advantage of the hardware that’s available.

This is versus Android devices where the software is largely dependent on Google’s Android operating system, while the hardware is also dictated by other manufacturers like Qualcomm who supplies the majority of chipsets used in smartphones today.

We’re not sure what kind of benefits we’ll be seeing with the bump to 8GB of RAM in the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, so we’ll have to wait until later on in the year to find out.
