In the past he suffered from panic attacks. Whether this is the reason why Stromae cannot give any concerts for the time being is unknown. In any case, the Belgian “Alors On Danse” singer is canceling a whole series of planned performances. Two shows in Germany are also cancelled.
Pop singer Stromae has canceled all of his tour dates through the end of May for health reasons. This was announced by his concert agency and his record company on the Belgian’s official Facebook account.
We wish the star a speedy recovery and apologize to the fans, it said. The artist himself also has his say in the statement. “It fills me with sadness, but I have to admit my limitations.”
He has come to the realization that his current state of health does not allow him to tour, said the 38-year-old: “Surrounded by my family, I have to take the time to get well so that I can perform again.”
Stromae, whose real name is Paul van Haver, had already canceled six appointments last week. Nothing is known about the exact medical reasons.
Germany shows also affected
Two Germany concerts are also affected by the cancellations. It was originally planned that Stromae would appear in Cologne on May 10th and in Berlin on May 12th. In addition, the tour stops in Amsterdam, Toulouse, Basel, Geneva, London, Rome and Lyon were cancelled.
It is not yet clear whether the dates will be rescheduled or canceled without replacement. Ticket holders can now have the money refunded, the message goes on to say. All Stromae dates from June are not affected so far.
The “Alors On Danse” singer announced his musical comeback in November 2020. In 2015 he had to break off his tour of Africa at the time because of anxiety caused by an antimalarial drug. He then avoided the public.
In 2017 he explained in an interview that he still suffers from panic attacks. At the time, he had doubts about ever returning as a professional musician.
Stromae is the son of a Belgian mother and a Rwandan father who died in the 1994 genocide there. The artist is married to his wife Coralie, with whom he runs the successful fashion label Mosaert. The two have a son together, who was born in 2018.
