Amazon Prime Video and Vodacom give cheaper streaming deals, mobile data

Just two weeks after announcing its partnership with Showmax, Vodacom is back at it again – this time, teaming up with Amazon Prime Video. Customers under the prepaid and contract umbrellas will have access to cheaper streaming deals, with the bonus of some mobile data to start watching.

Primed to take the market by storm

Customers looking to save on Amazon Prime Video can only do so through the Prime Video Mobile Edition which limits users to one mobile device and caps the quality to standard definition. This is fine, considering you’re paying R60/month for a subscription, with the first month free.

If you go this route, Vodacom will throw in 10GB of data – valid for 30 days. Thereafter, the package offers 3GB of video-streaming data, also valid for 30 days.

If you’re looking for the “full Prime Video experience”, Vodacom customers won’t miss out entirely. You’ll still be paying R80/month – the standard pricing for the rest of South Africa – though Vodacom will give these customers 3 months free at the beginning of their subscription.

“As we continue transitioning to a Pan-African technology company, with the ambition of offering much more than telco products, this partnership fits perfectly with our overall goal of enabling our consumers access to video streaming content,” said Jorge Mendes, Chief Officer of Consumer Business at Vodacom South Africa.

“Ensuring our entire customer base including prepaid gain access to such services, without worrying about data is in line with our purpose of ensuring we leave no one behind” adds Mendes.
